Solar Panel Bird Problems in Leicester
Solar panels provide a sheltered space where pigeons and other birds can nest, roost and raise their young. Once birds gain access beneath a solar array, they can return repeatedly, leading to ongoing problems for homeowners.
In Leicester and the surrounding area, these problems can include scratching and nesting noises, bird droppings, feathers and nesting debris around the roof, blocked gutters and potential issues with cables or other components beneath the panels.
Professional solar panel bird proofing creates a physical barrier around your panels, preventing birds from accessing the space underneath while allowing your solar installation to continue operating normally. This provides a practical, long-lasting way to prevent recurring bird-related problems.

Solar Panels in Leicester
Solar energy is an established part of Leicester’s plans to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy. Leicester City Council’s Climate Ready Leicester programme includes solar PV, with large-scale solar installations already used across council buildings and infrastructure, including leisure centres, depots, car parks and bus stations.
The council is continuing to invest in solar energy, with a 2025 programme approving 19 new solar PV installations across council buildings.
As solar installations become more common, proper maintenance and protection become increasingly important. Birds can access the sheltered space beneath roof-mounted panels, potentially causing noise, droppings, nesting debris and problems around cables and other components.
For Leicester homeowners experiencing these issues, professional solar panel bird proofing provides a practical way to prevent birds accessing the space beneath their panels.
Common Solar Panel Bird Problems in Leicester
When pigeons and other birds get underneath solar panels, they can cause several different problems around your home. From nesting materials and droppings to persistent noise and blocked gutters, these issues can become increasingly difficult to manage if birds continue returning to the same space. Below are some of the most common solar panel bird problems experienced by homeowners in Leicester.
Pigeons Under Solar Panels

Why do pigeons nest under solar panels?
The space beneath solar panels provides pigeons with shelter from the weather and protection from predators. It also creates a warm, secure environment where they can nest and raise their young.
How do you stop pigeons getting under solar panels?
We install durable stainless steel mesh around the perimeter of your solar panels using specialist fixing clips. This creates a physical barrier that prevents pigeons and other birds from getting underneath while maintaining airflow around the panels.
Do you drill into the solar panels?
No. We do not drill or screw into the solar panels. Our mesh is secured using specialist non-invasive fixing methods designed specifically for solar panel bird proofing.
Do you remove existing pigeon nests?
Yes. Where required, existing nests and nesting debris can be removed before the bird proofing system is installed. Any necessary nest removal will be considered as part of your quotation.
How much does solar panel bird proofing cost?
The cost depends on the number and layout of your solar panels, roof access and whether existing nests or debris need to be removed. We provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on your individual installation.
Can pigeons damage solar panels?
Pigeons and nesting birds can cause problems around your solar installation through nesting materials, droppings and debris. They may also affect cables and other components located beneath the panels. Professional bird proofing helps prevent birds from accessing this area.
Will bird proofing damage my solar panels?
No. Our bird proofing system is designed to be installed without drilling into or modifying the solar panels. Specialist fixing clips secure the mesh around the panels while providing effective protection.
How long does solar panel mesh last?
Our stainless steel mesh is designed to provide long-lasting protection and withstand outdoor weather conditions. With professional installation and normal maintenance, it can provide reliable bird protection for many years.
How long does installation take?
Most installations can be completed within a few hours, although the exact time depends on the number of panels, roof layout, access and whether existing nests or debris need to be removed.
